Everton have decided to lodge an appeal with the Football Association against the red card that Darron Gibson received during their 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
The former Manchester United midfielder was handed his marching orders by Anthony Taylor late in the second half for a challenge that he committed on Mark Noble.
However, the Toffees feel that the decision was incorrect and have informed the governing body of their challenge.
The case will be heard on Thursday, with a decision expected on the same day.
The length of the process means that the Irishman will be available for Everton's Boxing Day clash with Wigan Athletic.
