Phil Jagielka: 'Everton still a work in progress'

Everton captain Phil Jagielka admits that his side are still a "work in progress" following their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has admitted that his side still have work to do after being held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace at Goodison Park this evening.

Following a bright start to life under Ronald Koeman, the Toffees are now winless in three matches in all competitions after Christian Benteke cancelled out Romelu Lukaku's opener on Merseyside.

Lukaku's goal came from a free kick after Delaney had been penalised for a high boot on Jagielka, despite the Everton man handling the ball in the same incident.

"I have chased the ball and put my head in [for the free kick that led to Everton's goal]. I got a bit scared and tried to protect myself and ended up handballing it. It is a natural reaction to a high boot. The ref knew that. It was his decision. I'm sure they are not happy but we are glad Rom put it in," he told Sky Sports News.

"They put a few more bodies forward and more crosses in. We dealt with a lot but unfortunately not them all. We are still a work in process. We need to put a bit more in over 90 minutes and see out some more games."

Despite being held to a draw, Everton now sit third in the Premier League table, above the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
