Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes that defender Phil Jagielka is at the "peak" of his leadership skills.
Jagielka had been uncertain about his role at the club after the departure of former boss David Moyes, but after confirming that the England international will remain as captain, Martinez admitted that he is a "perfect fit for the role".
The former Wigan boss told the Daily Star: "I've been a big admirer of Phil and I feel he is now at the peak of his career in terms of the leadership he has achieved when representing England and for a few seasons at Everton.
"It is the right moment for him to take that role and he for me is very representative of the standards of the club.
"I know he is going to be a perfect fit for the role."
Jagielka has made 215 appearances for Everton since his arrival at the club in 2007.
