Everton boss Roberto Martinez has revealed his pride with Ross Barkley's display after the England youngster missed a penalty in Saturday's 1-0 win over 10-man Burnley at Goodison Park.
The midfielder saw a first-half spot kick saved before Kevin Mirallas struck the winner, but Martinez was impressed with how Barkley responded after the missing the penalty.
The Toffees boss told the club's official website: "When Ross missed the penalty, it was a real test of character. What we saw was the potential he has.
"I couldn't be prouder of the manner in that he faced the disappointment and worked hard for the team to do his job.
"It depends how you feel at that moment. Sometimes you are feeling good and want to take it and I think Ross showed incredible responsibility in wanting to take it and Leighton Baines was happy for him to do so."
The win leaves the Blues in 12th in the Premier League table.
