Roberto Martinez: 'Everton failed to take control in Leicester City draw'

Roberto Martinez admits to having mixed feelings after seeing Everton held to a 2-2 draw at home to Premier League basement club Leicester City.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez praised his players for showing the character to battle back against Leicester City and rescue a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

The Toffees found themselves a goal behind heading into the final couple of minutes, but some late pressure saw Romelu Lukaku's flick deflect into the back off the net off Matthew Upson as the hosts claimed a share of the spoils.

Despite being pleased with the spirit shown by his group, Martinez was unable to hide his disappointment at the way that Everton failed to take control against the Premier League's bottom-placed side.

"We looked a bit pedestrian and we knew it was going to be a difficult game," he told Sky Sports News. "Scoring the first goal is always the hardest moment, but once we did that we didn't take control.

"We always expected Leicester to get into good positions but we didn't defend in the box well. It's fantastic to show the character to get back into the game, it shows we will never give up and keep fighting until the end."

Everton find themselves in 12th place in the league table following the result.
