David Unsworth: 'I am so proud of Everton'

David Unsworth admits that he is "so proud" of Everton after the struggling Premier League side claimed an exhilarating 3-2 win over Watford at Goodison Park on Sunday.

David Unsworth has declared himself "so proud" of Everton's 3-2 win over Watford in Sunday afternoon's Premier League encounter at Goodison Park.

The Hornets surged into a two-goal lead through Richarlison and Christian Kabasele, but strikes from Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin edged the Toffees level.

Everton then won a penalty in the 91st minute which Leighton Baines converted, while a spot kick awarded to Watford 10 minutes into injury time was rifled wide by Tom Cleverley.

"The game had everything didn't it? It was an Everton performance in the second half and the crowd were amazing," interim boss Unsworth told BBC Sport. "They got us back into the game without a doubt. They could have gone against us but I am so proud of our club tonight.

"I might need to lie down in a dark room for half an hour! We showed great fight and spirit and that's what you need at the bottom of the table. We showed great desire and determination. This club is built on that sort of attitude. The table looks better than it did before the game. The win will give us some confidence, it lifts the club and the training ground.

"All I know is that every day since I got the honour of standing in as manager I have given my all and I will continue to do that. I want what's best for this club. If someone else comes in I will shake them by the hand and wish them the very best of luck."

The result sees Everton climb out of the Premier League dropzone and up to 15th place in the table.
