Wayne Rooney has admitted that it was "weird" to pull on the Everton shirt for Duncan Ferguson's testimonial on Sunday.
The Manchester United striker and Toffees academy product risked incurring the wrath of his former fans by returning to Goodison Park for the clash with Villarreal.
However, the 29-year-old, who made a 25-minute cameo off the bench, received a warm reception, but did claim it to be an odd experience on the whole.
"It was a bit different today, going into the home dressing-room again," the boyhood Evertonian told the club's official website.
"It was a bit weird at first but, as I say, didn't know what to expect with the reception but it was a great reception."
Rooney left Everton for an estimated £30m back in 2004, and has since won 10 major trophies - including five Premier League titles - with the Red Devils.
