Everton striker Wayne Rooney will reportedly undergo a medical with DC United later this week as he edges closer to a move away from the Premier League.
Rooney has spent his entire career in the English top flight with Everton and Manchester United, winning every trophy available to him and leaving United as the club's all-time leading scorer.
However, having been in and out of the team under former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce the ex-England captain was understood to be close to sealing a move to the MLS.
Allardyce's sacking has delayed matters as Rooney waits to discover who the new manager will be, but the Washington Post suggests that Rooney will travel to the city for a medical on Thursday.
The two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the 32-year-old, while personal terms are also still to be discussed, but Rooney's trip to Washington is an indication that he is keen on the move.
Marco Silva is the favourite to replace Allardyce as Everton manager, although club owner Farhad Moshiri is thought to be eager to get Rooney off the wage bill regardless.
