The floodlights will be beaming down at De Grolsch Veste on Thursday night, when FC Twente play host to PSV Eindhoven on matchday 30 in the Eredivisie.

A victory for the defending champions will cut the gap to current league leaders Ajax to six points, while a win for the hosts will keep their hopes of finishing in the top four alive.

Match preview

After going unbeaten in six matches from the start of February to early last month, Twente are now enduring a very poor run of form, failing to win any of their last four matches since just before the March international break.

Leading into the international break, Twente suffered their first home loss of the season, going down 6-2 to Feyenoord, and they failed to bounce back from that, drawing 1-1 against Fortuna Sittard at the start of this month.

Last week, the Tukkers went a goal down against PEC Zwolle just after the hour mark, but managed to salvage a point thanks to an Alec Van Hoorenbeeck goal heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation time.

During the Reds' current winless run, Utrecht have gone unbeaten with three wins and a draw, which allowed them to pull 11 points clear in fourth place, while AZ Alkmaar and Go Ahead Eagles are two points behind, meaning a defeat here could see Joseph Oosting's side drop to seventh in the table by the end of this weekend.

Unfortunately for the hosts, recent history suggests that returning to winning ways on their home patch this week will not be easy, as they have lost each of their last four matches against this opponent, including a 6-1 drubbing in the reverse fixture back in December.

Meanwhile, PSV received a significant boost in their hopes of retaining the league title last week, when they secured a commanding 5-0 victory over Almere City, while Ajax suffered a shock 4-0 loss to Utrecht.

Ismael Saibari bagged a brace in that match, either side of strikes by Johan Bakayoko, Noa Lang and Malik Tillman, and the result marked the Red and Whites' fourth win in their last five games, with the exception being a 2-0 loss to de Godenzonen at the end of last month.

Notably, while they are still some way from last season's tally of 111, those five goals last week took Peter Bosz's side to a league-leading 86 goals this term, 22 more than Feyenoord with the second-best tally of 64.

The visitors will also gain confidence from their recent away record, having notched up back-to-back wins in their last two outings, scoring three goals in each victory, after failing to win four in a row on their travels since December.

Team News

Despite Twente's recent dip in form, Sem Steijn has continued his incredible goal-scoring form, netting five goals in his last six games, which has put him nine clear at the top of the leading-scorer standings this season with 23.

The hosts will have to make do without Mees Hilgers this week due to suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards, while Taylor Booth, Sam Lammers and Gerald Alders are ruled out through injury.

Since returning from injury, Malik Tillman has started two games in a row and should keep his place in midfield, having got on the scoresheet in PSV's big win over basement club Almere City last week.

However, the visitors are still missing several players due to injury, including Sergino Dest (muscle), Lucas Perez (illness), Wessel Kuhn (knee), Ricardo Pepi (knee) and Rick Karsdorp (muscle).

FC Twente possible starting lineup:
Unnerstall; Van Rooij, Kjolo, Van Hoorenbeeck, Kuipers; Vlap, Sadilek; Rots, Steijn, Ltaief; Van Wolfswinkel

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Benitez; Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Junior; Saibari, Veerman, Tillman; Bakayoko, De Jong, Lang

We say: FC Twente 1-3 PSV Eindhoven

Twente have experienced a notable dip in form since that big loss to Feyenoord ahead of the March international break, and a defeat here could see them end the weekend in seventh place if results elsewhere go against them.

PSV, meanwhile, will be full of confidence after their commanding victory last week, combined with Ajax losing for the first time since December, and we feel the visitors will pull within six points of the league leaders with a win in this one.
