Former France international Djibril Cisse reveals that he wants to come out of retirement, six months after hanging up his boots because of a hip injury.

Former France international Djibril Cisse has revealed that he wants to return to professional football, six months after announcing his retirement.

The 34-year-old, who spent three years playing at Liverpool between 2004 and 2007, stepped away from the sport in October following a spell at Bastia due to a hip injury.

Now, though, the striker is ready to get back on the field after undergoing surgery and receiving the green light from his doctor.

"If I want to make it back onto the pitch? That is not a rumour, I have never hidden that desire," Cisse told beIN Sports. "I had to stop because of a hip problem, I never stopped because I no longer had the desire to play or because I was bored of football, I stopped because of medical reasons.

"Today, those reasons no longer exist, I have received the green light from the surgeon. After my operation, things went very well, after one week I started running again."

Since leaving Liverpool, Cisse has had stints at Marseille, Sunderland, Panathinaikos, Lazio, Queens Park Rangers, Al-Gharafa, Kuban Krasnodar and Bastia.
