Former France international Tony Vairelles has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Vairelles was apprehended after a nightclub shooting on Sunday in the city of Nancy.
The 38-year-old was allegedly part of a gang that attacked bouncers after they were ejected from a club in the early hours.
The bouncers were attacked with baseball bats before one member of the group opened fire and injured three people.
Vairelles was one of five people arrested over the incident and is due to appear in court today.
Vairelles, who won the French title with Lens in 1998 and with Lyon in 2003, earned eight caps for his country.
