Martin Jol has reiterated his wish to see Clint Dempsey remain a Fulham player beyond the end of the current campaign.
The American international's contract expires at the end of next season and the club have offered him fresh terms.
However, the 29-year-old has so far declined to commit his future to the Whites.
"I can't foresee the future. We want to keep him and hopefully he wants to stay. We have offered him a very good contract," said Jol.
"He knows he is very appreciated at our club, so hopefully he will stay.
"If we want to be a top side we need players who can score more than 20 goals in all competitions."
Dempsey scored twice as Fulham recorded a 3-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers yesterday afternoon.
