Fulham defender John Arne Riise could be out for a while after suffering a leg injury against Dnipro on Thursday.
The Norwegian was forced from the field with a serious-looking injury during the 1-0 defeat to Dnipro.
Manager Martin Jol fears the injury could rule the 30-year-old out of action for a long time.
"Riise has a serious problem with the leg," he said. "That's why I substituted him with Matthew Briggs."
Despite losing to Dnipro in the Ukraine, Fulham still progressed to the group stages of the Europa League after they won the first leg 3-0 at Craven Cottage last week.
Meanwhile, Matthew Briggs is likely to deputise for Riise in the Premier League match against Newcastle on Sunday.
Riise joined Fulham in July and has gone on to make six first-team appearances.
The former Liverpool man had previously been plying his trade in Italy with Roma since 2008.
