Fulham manager Martin Jol has reportedly managed to persuade chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed to match Dimitar Berbatov's Manchester United wages of £100,000 per week, according to The Express.
Jol, who is expected to officially announce the signing of Berbatov later today, has also told the newspaper that to secure the best players a club has to pay the best money.
"You have to pay good money for good players, but we have made steps over the years," Jol said. "There were a lot of clubs interested in Dimitar. He was on Juventus's list all the time.
"I tried to do something months ago for Dimitar but it never came off. However, for him, now was the right moment."
Fulham are set for a busy deadline day, with a number of players potentially being brought in, including Kieran Richardson, and the future of Clint Dempsey yet to be decided.
