Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has admitted that losing in a semi-final is the worst feeling in football following his side's 2-0 loss to France this evening.
Antoine Griezmann scored both goals as the host nation booked a showdown with Portugal at the Stade de France on Sunday, breaking the deadlock from the spot right on the stroke of half time before adding a second with less than 20 minutes remaining.
Neuer stopped short of saying that his side deserved to come away with the victory, but believes that a two-goal margin was an unfair result.
"It is a semi-final, there are no worse moments than losing these games. I don't want to say that we were the better side but 2-0 was not a fair result," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"Of course the penalty was crucial but we had a whole half to equalise. We had chances but couldn't take them. France took their chances.
"It would have been a catastrophe to play badly here but it's been a good tournament for us."
Germany have now lost in the semi-finals of four of the last six major tournaments.
