Max Kruse scores the winning goal as world champions Germany beat Georgia 2-1 to book their place at Euro 2016.

World champions Germany have booked their spot at Euro 2016 by edging to a 2-1 victory over Georgia in Leipzig this evening.

The hosts made a dominant start and Thomas Muller saw an effort saved by the keeper, before Toni Kroos volleyed narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

Ilkay Gundogan then saw his strike following a quick break palmed to safety by Nukri Revishvili, and moments later Marco Reus forced the keeper into another stop.

Despite the constant pressure from the Germans, the visitors almost took a shock lead in the 27th minute as Manuel Neuer was forced to touch behind Tornike Okriashvili's close-range attempt.

Germany were soon on the attack again and Reus had another chance when he was slipped through by Mesut Ozil, but his clipped effort headed inches wide of the far post.

The teams headed into the break on level terms, but within five minutes of the second half, Muller scored from the penalty spot, after Ozil had been brought down inside the box by Jaba Kankava.

However, Kankava soon made up for that mistake by pulling the visitors level three minutes later as he latched onto a headed clearance outside the box, and crashed in a powerful volley that left Neuer with no chance.

Georgia were buoyed by the goal and they came close to turning the game on its head when Valeri Qazaishvili danced past a number of challenges and into the box, before firing narrowly wide of the post.

The Germans soon regained their composure and Reus had a powerful shot saved, while Ozil saw a free kick miss everyone inside the box and head just wide of the far post.

Their pressure paid off in the 79th minute as Max Kruse collected Ozil's pass inside the box, before guiding a low strike beyond the reach of the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Joachim Low's side then saw out the rest of the match with ease to seal top spot in Group D and keep alive their hopes of claiming a World Cup and European Championship double.
