A Nick van der Velden goal eight minutes from time has given Groningen a 3-2 win against regional rivals Cambuur in this afternoon's Eredivisie derby at the Euroborg Stadium.
The hosts opened the scoring within the first minute through the prolific Tjaronn Chery, who curled an effort into the top corner with goalkeeper Leonard Nienhuis stranded.
Cambuur were level just five minutes later, however, as Sander van de Streek's cross was fired home by Mikhail Rosheuvel after good work from Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Henk de Jong's charges soon eked themselves into the lead just before the half-hour mark when Eric Botteghin bundled Ogbeche's effort into his own net.
Cambuur took their one-goal advantage into the break but were pegged back in the 56th minute courtesy of Simon Tibbling's drive from the edge of the box.
Groningen then sealed all three points in the 82nd minute when Van der Welden picked up the ball following a misplaced pass by Mohamed El Makrini before rifling home.
The result sees Groningen climb to 11th in the Eredivisie table, level on points with 10th-placed Cambuur but with a slightly inferior goal difference.
