Hamburg forward Rafael van der Vaart expects to miss the rest of the year with a hamstring tear.

Hamburger SV forward Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he is likely to miss the rest of the year with a hamstring tear.

The Dutch international sustained the injury during Friday's 2-0 defeat to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

"It feels like a tear," Van der Vaart told Kicker. "It's not an injury with which you can play again after a few weeks.

"It will be difficult to play again this year. The injury hurts more than the defeat."

Van der Vaart has scored one goal in 13 appearances for Hamburg so far this season.
