Huddersfield Town have announced the appointment of Darren Moore as their new manager following the exit of Neil Warnock.

Warnock announced earlier this week that he would be stepping down as boss after seven months, during which time he steered Huddersfield to safety last season.

The 74-year-old's final game in charge was Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Stoke City, and the Terriers have now moved quickly to confirm Moore as his successor.

Moore joins having most recently been in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, who unexpectedly let him leave during the summer despite winning promotion from League One last season.

The 49-year-old will appear at a press conference on Friday before taking training for the first time on Saturday, and then overseeing his first match at the helm during Monday night's clash with Coventry City.

"We're proud to have secured the services of Darren," said Huddersfield chief executive Jake Edwards.

"A lot of time, effort and analysis went into making sure we found the right manager for this club, and Darren emerged as the standout candidate to help us achieve our short-term objective of stability and longer-term vision of growth and development.

"Darren has a track record of success as a player at this level, but more importantly as a manager. He has gone into clubs and revolutionised cultures into winning ones on the back of real challenges like relegation. He turned things around at West Bromwich Albion and Doncaster Rovers to make them into promotion contenders and steered Sheffield Wednesday back into the Sky Bet Championship last season.

"Immediately, Darren's appointment allows us to build on the platform that has been created here throughout pre-season and the opening two months in the Sky Bet Championship, which is clearly of the utmost importance. We've studied how Darren's teams perform and spoken to him at length about how he wants his side to play, and he's a good fit for our current squad.

"Everyone who has come across Darren can speak to his character in terms of how engaging he is, his ability to motivate players and create a winning culture, and his strength of character and resolve. He's a very collaborative worker and I'm sure his appointment, and that of his team, will be a great fit with the talented staff we already have here.

"Having spent considerable time with him discussing this opportunity, I know how strongly he wants to return to managing in the Premier League, and he believes we can achieve that here together. I'm extremely excited about working with him during the coming months and years."

Sporting director Mark Cartwright added: "We were very clear in the skillsets that we wanted from our new manager, and Darren hit the key points. We wanted a manager who has a proven track record of high performance, and Darren's record in sometimes challenging circumstances has been fantastic.

"That stems back to his first job at West Bromwich Albion, through his time at Doncaster Rovers and in getting promotion with Sheffield Wednesday last season.

"We also wanted someone whose playing style fits the squad we have now, and the one we will develop together in the future. Darren doesn't just play an attacking brand of football; he has a track record of making teams even more attack-minded the longer he works with them.

"The ability to manage a squad was also of paramount importance. Darren's track record of growing, developing, and improving squads through a joined-up strategy of player recruitment and working with talented young players is perfect for us over the longer term.

"We've got a great platform to build from here, and I'm excited to work closely with Darren and his team to build on those foundations."

Moore won more than half of his matches as Sheffield Wednesday boss and boasts a career win percentage of 48.6% from 255 games as a manager.

The former centre-back will be joined at the club by assistant manager Jamie Smith, first-team coach Jimmy Shan, set-piece coach Simon Ireland and goalkeeping coach Adriano Basso. body check tags ::
