Oldham Athletic loanee Jon Stead has revealed that he had no choice but to leave Huddersfield Town in pursuit of regular football.
The 30-year-old striker, who joined the Latics on loan last week, was restricted to limited playing time at his parent club.
Stead made an immediate impact at his new side, setting up Jonathan Grounds' second-half winner in the 1-0 victory against Swindon Town.
"Apart from the goal against Leeds, I have played little bits [at Huddersfield] and at times I have not been at the best of my form," Stead is quoted as saying by The Examiner. At other times I have played really well and had no rewards to show for it.
"It got to a point where I was training really, really well and still not getting anywhere near playing. It was obvious to me that the only way I would get games was to go somewhere else."
Stead made 12 appearances for the Terriers, scoring one goal.
