David Wagner: 'Huddersfield Town made it easy for Chelsea'

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner admits that his side made it too easy for Chelsea to score goals as the Blues ran out 3-1 winners at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has praised his side's performance against Chelsea on Tuesday night, despite acknowledging that the Terriers conceded "easy" goals against the Blues.

Goals from Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willian and Pedro earned a 3-1 win for the visitors, with Laurent Depoitre netting a consolation goal for the Yorkshire outfit with the last touch of the game.

Wagner has admitted that his team could have done more to prevent the West Londoners from breezing into a three-goal lead, but the German has insisted that his players did not underperform at the John Smith's Stadium.

The 46-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "They didn't need to invest much into the first goal, it was a goal that we gave away, and the same with the second, we gave two easy goals away, and this wasn't the case against Man Utd and Man City.

"I think before we conceded it looked a little bit like when we played Man Utd and Man City. We kept them away from goal and they didn't create many clear-cut chances before they scored the goal in the first 20, 25 minutes.

"The biggest difference today was that Chelsea scored the first goal, and then quickly the second one. I think it wasn't comfortable for Chelsea, in my view. They were good, no doubt about it, the bigger problem is we haven't over-performed. I think we performed on an average level, we didn't under-perform, but we didn't over-perform."

Huddersfield remain in 12th position in the top-flight standings.
