West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass feels his side should be challenging much higher up the Premier League table.

Felipe Anderson’s 74th-minute equaliser on Saturday salvaged the depleted Hammers a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield, who had taken an early lead through Alex Pritchard.

West Ham, still without half a dozen key players through injury, have won only once in six league games on the road under Manuel Pellegrini and are four points above the bottom three.

“We want to be looking further forward and up the table, that’s where we need to be looking,” Snodgrass told Press Association Sport.

“We need to win these games. No disrespect to Huddersfield, but we need to win them.

“We got the goal we deserved over the 90 minutes, but we must push forward and believe we can go and win it.”

Huddersfield’s first-half display in particular belied their lowly league standing, but Snodgrass was not surprised by David Wagner’s side.

“No, we knew what to expect. We worked hard during the week (to prepare for) a team which pressed really well.

“They do that very well, but leave gaps in behind and we never exploited that enough. They’re very good from set-pieces and long throws, that’s what Huddersfield bring.

“But we shouldn’t be shocked by that. That’s how they got their victory against Fulham, they’re a good side.

“It’s up to us to regroup now. A point on the road, we’ll take it and move forward.”

A helter-skelter start to the game saw West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic and Huddersfield’s Steve Mounie both denied by excellent saves.

Lukasz Fabainski brilliantly turned Mounie’s thumping header on to the crossbar, while Huddersfield hit the woodwork for a second time through Philip Billing’s curling cross, which rebounded off the inside of a post.

The Hammers’ second-half fightback denied Huddersfield the back-to-back league wins they craved, but goalkeeper Jonas Lossl focused on the positives.

“It’s easy to look at it and be a little bit disappointed with the result, but I would rather look at the week as a full,” said the Dane, whose side clinched their first league win of the season against Fulham on Monday.

“We got four points out of two difficult matches, it’s always difficult. West Ham had their chances as well, we probably had a few more, so maybe if anybody should have won it should have been us.

“I would rather look at the performances and say we’re on our way. We know there is an exciting (fixture) programme we’re going to face now.

“There is this sense that the luck is turning now for us, but we still need that last bit to really get something out of our performances.”
