Inter Milan have announced that Nemanja Vidic has undergone surgery to repair a slipped disc in his back.
The defender could miss the rest of 2015 while recovering from the operation, with the former Serbia international expected to miss three to six months.
A statement from the Serie A side said: "Nemanja Vidic underwent successful surgery for a slipped disc today. The operation was performed by professors Fornari and Volpi."
Vidic had been linked with a move away from San Siro this summer, with Everton among those thought to be interested.
