Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers reveals management ambitions

Ipswich Town skipper Luke Chambers wants to follow in the footsteps of Gary Rowett and become a manager when his playing career comes to an end.

Ipswich Town skipper Luke Chambers has revealed that he plans to go into management when his playing career comes to an end.

The 29-year-old has racked up over 500 club appearances already in his time with Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Northampton Town and believes that he is cut out for the management game.

Speaking ahead of tonight's fixture at home to Birmingham City, Chambers told Ipswich's matchday programme that he did some of his coaching badges with current Birmingham boss Gary Rowett and wants to follow in his footsteps by becoming a successful manager.

"It doesn't surprise me to see him go into management and it certainly doesn't surprise me to see him doing so well at Birmingham, as even back then when we did the course together, you could tell that he was taking everything in and he knew what he was doing," Chambers said.

"Having done my coaching badges with Gary and speaking to others in the game, I made my mind up pretty quick that it would be something I'd look at pursuing.

"I want to be a manager when I finish playing, that's something I've thought about and it's what I want to do."

Chambers has captained Ipswich to their best season in 10 years and they will go third for 24 hours at least if they beat Rowett's men later tonight.
