Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings gave a fan who said he was "skint" on Twitter two tickets to the team's home match on Saturday.
Mings received a tweet from Tris Monk that said: "Good luck today, wish I was there to watch, hopefully 3 points #skint."
Monk told the BBC that he was surprised Mings replied to his message as he regularly tries to strike up conversations with Ipswich players on the social media site.
Mings tweeted Monk back: "Left u tickets under the name tris monk. Shouldn't miss a game cos u can't afford it."
Monk was able to watch an Ipswich victory as the Tractor Boys scored a late winner to upset in-form Bolton Wanderers.
"It just goes to show, with modern footballers, some do care about the fans," Monk added.
The win keeps Ipswich four points above the Championship's drop zone.
