Ipswich hoping to land Alan Smith from Newcastle

Ipswich Town want to sign out-of-favour Alan Smith from Newcastle.

Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith is reportedly a target for Championship side Ipswich Town.

The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at St. James' Park, making only two appearances as a late substitute this season.

The Magpies are expected to release the former Manchester United man, although Alan Pardew may keep him until the end of the transfer window as he tries to reinforce his threadbare squad.

Ipswich are hoping that they can convince Smith to drop down a division as they fight relegation.

Smith joined Newcastle from Manchester United in 2007.
