Ipswich Town have announced the signing of midfielder Jonathan Douglas from fellow Championship side Brentford on a one-year contract.
The 33-year-old leaves Brentford on a free transfer after captaining the Bees to the Championship playoffs last season, missing just two of their league games after promotion from League One in 2014.
Despite making almost 200 appearances in four seasons in West London, Douglas was told this summer by new Bees head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen that he was not part of the club's plans.
"He has been an integral part of the squad and success that the players have achieved in recent seasons. We wish him well at Ipswich," said Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles.
In a message on his Twitter page, Douglas said that disappointed would be an "understatement" to describe his Bees departure.
Douglas, who is the second Brentford midfielder to leave the club today after Stuart Dallas's move to Leeds United, could face his former club on Saturday as last year's beaten playoff semi-finalists meet at Griffin Park on the opening weekend of the season.
