Italy head coach Antonio Conte has suggested that midfielder Daniele De Rossi was wrong to react to a bad tackle in his side's 1-0 victory over Bulgaria.
The 32-year-old kicked out at Iliyan Mitsanski after a reckless challenge by the Bulgaria striker, before both players were given a red card by the match official.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Conte said: "Honestly I didn't see the incident, but if he did react then obviously he was in the wrong. It's very, very simple.
"I didn't see what happened, but if he did react then he committed a mistake because he could have compromised everything and that cannot happen.
"Again, though, I didn't see what happened, but I think that he knows what he did was wrong and there is very little to say about it."
De Rossi could miss Italy's Euro 2016 qualifier with Azerbaijan in October through suspension.
