Michael Appleton: 'Managerial situation remains unclear'

Leicester City caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare admits that the past week has "been a bit of a rollercoaster", as he prepares his side for the visit of Everton.

Michael Appleton has revealed that he expects to still be in caretaker charge of Leicester City for next weekend's Premier League clash against fellow managerless side Everton.

The former Oxford United boss has stepped up following last week's sacking of Craig Shakespeare, guiding the Foxes to back-to-back wins in league and cup.

Leicester are reportedly still weighing up a number of candidates to replace Shakespeare on a full-time basis, with Claude Puel the odds-on favourite, and Appleton is happy to continue in his current role until a new man is appointed.

"It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, to say the least," he told reporters following Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Leeds United in the EFL Cup. "It's been a difficult week, there's no doubt about that.

"To lose your manager, things then happened very, very quickly. It certainly would've been a lot worse had we not won the two matches. As it stands at the minute, I'm expecting to take the team on Sunday but I know how quickly things can move.

"But I'm not really thinking that far ahead to be honest, I'm just thinking about making sure the lads get a proper recovery session in and making sure the lads who didn't play tonight get a proper physical session. Then they have Thursday off and we're in again on Friday preparing for Everton.

"When I first spoke to the powers that be it was literally just take every game as it comes and make sure the lads are prepared as best as they possibly can be. That's not something that's new to me, which I suppose is a bonus from the club's point of view. I'm sure I'll have more information and you'll have more information in the coming days."

Leicester follow up Saturday's clash against Everton with a trip to Stoke City the following week, before a two-week international break.
