Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has thanked Ruud van Nistelrooy for his message of support on Twitter, ahead of his side's Premier League meeting with Newcastle United.
The Dutchman wished the forward luck as he went in search of a record-equalling 10th league goal in a row, which he notched late in the first half of the Foxes' 3-0 win on Tyneside to draw level with the former Manchester United man.
"I kept getting it [the message] sent to me and fair play to him for doing it. He didn't have to do that," Vardy told Sky Sports News.
He added: "I may have equalled the record but we got the three points and the clean sheet.
"We just take every game as it comes. We can get goals and we've been solid at the back. We have a never say die attitude, we'll fight for each other right to the very end."
Leicester's win over Newcastle has fired them to the top of the Premier League.
