Brendan Rodgers: 'I'll never look for backing from Leicester City board'

Brendan Rodgers insists that he will never look to receive a public or private show of confidence from the Leicester City board.

Head coach Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he does not require a show of confidence from the Leicester City board.

The Foxes went into Sunday's Premier League fixture with Brighton & Hove Albion looking to end a run of four successive defeats and move off the bottom of the standings.

Initially, the signs were positive after the Foxes went ahead at the Amex Stadium after just 52 seconds, but the East Midlands side eventually went down by a 5-2 scoreline.

Leicester now find themselves three points adrift of 19th position ahead of facing fellow strugglers Aston Villa next weekend.

With Leicester having made just one outfield signing during the summer transfer window, it has been suggested that Rodgers may depart the club in the foreseeable future.

However, the Northern Irishman has stated that he will not request patience with the club's hierarchy, nor will be seek out any kind of reassurance over his job.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Rodgers said: "I've never asked for it in all my time here. I've never wanted it. I'll continue to do my work and come in and study and do as much as I can.

"I've never turned work down. I've always come in early and finished late at night and until someone tells me differently I'll continue to do that. The challenge, we have to embrace it, I'm certainly not going to shirk it.

"It's been really difficult but we just need to get that laser focus on the team and working well and hopefully then the supporters can really support the team."

As well as expressing a desire to get things back on track, Rodgers feels that Leicester still possess the quality to play themselves out of trouble in the short and long term.

Rodgers added: "We have the players we have that have the skill-set they have, and we have to try to maximise what we can get out of them. We have to try to find every which way. For us, it's like a jigsaw. We've got pieces missing. It's a constant challenge to try to fill the gaps where the pieces are missing.

"That's the reality. It won't stop us trying and working and fighting to get the best results we can. Football can change very quickly and if we get one result, that will bring a lot of confidence into the players and then we can move on from there."

Leicester have now gone nine Premier League fixtures without keeping a clean sheet, their only shutout in 12 attempts coming against Norwich City at the King Power Stadium on May 11.
