Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson believes that striker Jamie Vardy will not leave the Foxes during this month's transfer window.

Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson believes that the Premier League's joint top scorer Jamie Vardy will not leave the Foxes during this month's transfer window.

Vardy has scored 15 goals in 20 league games this season to help Leicester up to second place in the table and his form has resulted in links with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

However, Pearson, who signed Vardy for Leicester from Fleetwood Town for £1m in 2012, does not expect the 28-year-old to move in January.

"I would encourage him to stay, but it's not for me to do that," Pearson told BBC Radio 5 live.

"You've got to protect your own interests, but there comes a point when you have to recognise when to keep hold of a player and when they no longer want to be there. Players have so much power these days and a player's state of mind is key to their performance.

"But I think Vardy will stay there because he's a fantastic lad as well as a player, and they're such a strong group."

Leicester have not won in three games to fall two points behind Arsenal at the top of the table and Vardy has failed to net in four, his longest scoreless spell of the season.
