Lille manager Herve Renard has claimed that his side deserved a win against Montpellier HSC after the effort they put into the game.
Les Dogues picked up their second victory of the season against La Paillade thanks to goals from Sofiane Boufal and Djibril Sidibe.
However, Renard has suggested that the win has put Lille in a better position after an "average" start to the season.
He is quoted by Ligue1.com as saying: "We've finally been rewarded for our efforts. It's a match which could have damaged our confidence, at least we avoided that. It's a deserved win.
"We're going to enjoy this win and prepare ourselves well during the international break for the trip to Guingamp, which is always a difficult place to go to.
"With quarter of the season gone, we have had an average campaign so far. We're lacking three points for it to be a good one."
The victory moves Lille into 11th place in Ligue 1.
