Liverpool could reportedly lose Joel Matip to international duty during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The Reds are already due to be severely weakened during the mid-season tournament, with top-scorer Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita all set to join up with their respective countries.
However, they could now face a further blow with Africa Insider claiming that Matip is considering a return to international football with Cameroon ahead of the 2022 competition.
The 30-year-old has not played for his country since 2015 due to a dispute with the governing body, but legendary former player Samuel Eto'o has now been elected as the new president of FECAFOOT.
Matip is one of the players Eto'o is reportedly keen to bring back into the fold for Cameroon in time for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
The tournament runs from January 9 to February 6, although players could link up with their countries before the end of the year, meaning that Premier League clubs face being without them for more than a month.
Matip has already made more Premier League appearances this season than in either of the previous two injury-hit campaigns, starting 12 of Liverpool's top-flight games so far. body check tags ::
