Mohamed Salah has become the first Liverpool player to score 50 European goals for the club, with his strike against Lille this evening.

Salah opened the scoring at Anfield, latching onto a direct through ball by Curtis Jones before beating Lucas Chevalier when faced with a one-on-one.

That was his third Champions League goal of the season, on top of the 19 he has managed domestically, taking him to the half-century mark on the continent for the Reds.

Salah was already clear at the top of standings for goals in Europe at Liverpool, beating Steven Gerrard's record of 41 during the 2022-23 season.

The Egyptian is now reaching near-unassailable levels of goals, though, with the next best on that list being Sadio Mane, who managed just 26 in comparison.

Salah's European record broken down:

Salah has raced to 50 European goals for Liverpool, managing the feat in just 82 matches, averaging a goal every 126 minutes.

The vast majority have come in the Champions League, but five were in Liverpool's campaign in the Europa League last season.

Salah's first season at Anfield was his most productive, scoring 11 in 15 games during their run to the final in 2017-18, and he got another five the following year when Jurgen Klopp's men were crowned Champions of Europe, with one coming in the final.

When reaching the final again in 2022, Salah notched eight that season, but was unable to find one in the final as they fell to defeat against Real Madrid again, like in 2018.

Across his career, Salah has now notched 51 goals in the Champions League, overtaking Kylian Mbappe and Filippo Inzaghi, while moving level with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Liverpool set new defensive record in first half

Not only did Salah hit a new impressive milestone, but Arne Slot's side have made their own history this evening, breaking a near-20-year record.

After getting to half time without conceding, it means Liverpool have not conceded for over 577 minutes, breaking the club's previous European record.

Liverpool have not been breached since Christian Pulisic's opener on matchday one for AC Milan all the way back in September.

The initial best was set by Rafael Benitez's side in the 2005-06 season, when they were holders of the competition, and did not concede after the 50th minute of their opening group stage game, until the 84th minute of the first leg of their last-16 defeat to Benfica.

Liverpool are set to keep a sixth straight clean sheet, having kept the likes of Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig at bay across the league phase. body check tags ::
