Dietmar Hamann
Steven Gerrard may have been the catalyst and Jerzy Dudek the penalty shootout hero in the 2005 Champions League final, but it was Dietmar Hamann's introduction at half time which truly changed the game in Istanbul.
The reliable German midfielder replaced Steve Finnan and instantly curtailed the influence of Kaka, who had run riot in the first half as AC Milan stormed into a 3-0 lead.
Playing with a broken toe, Hamann also scored the first penalty in the shootout - a feat he would repeat in the FA Cup final a year later when Liverpool overcame West Ham United.
Hamann had spent a year in the Premier League with Newcastle United before his move to Anfield in 1999, and he went on to make almost 200 top-flight appearances for the Reds, scoring eight goals.
The former Germany international left in 2006 having won nine trophies at Anfield, including two FA Cups, two League Cups, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League. Hamann played a major role in Liverpool's treble-winning campaign in 2001, making 53 appearances across all competitions that season.
