Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan has reportedly claimed that the Reds should definitely be part of the European Super League in a letter to the club's staff.

Hogan's club are amongst the 12 who have agreed to the breakaway league that has turned the football world upside down as the future of the game goes into uncertainty.

Reds fans have gathered outside Anfield to remove banners from the Kop and attach flags to the gates in protest of the club's decision to be part of the Super League.

The Athletic reports that a letter has been written to the staff at Liverpool outlining the owners' reasons for agreeing to the proposal, including raising concerns over the future of football at the hands of UEFA.

A section of the letter reads: "The Super League will be the future of European football and if we want to continue our journey of being a sustainable club with ambition to grow and continue winning trophies then we should absolutely be part of that process and have a seat at the table rather than outside that group.

"This is the beginning of the journey and we can now start an engagement process with you, supporters and key stakeholders to help shape this process in the right way."

The leaked letter promises staff that more detail will be provided in due course. body check tags ::
