Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has claimed that he could return to the first-team squad before the end of 2016.
Last month, it was feared that Coutinho would miss the rest of the season after he suffered what appeared to be a severe ankle injury against Sunderland.
However, while it was soon revealed that he would only be absent for the rest of the year, the Brazilian playmaker has said that he hopes to make his return in the game against Manchester City on New Year's Eve.
The 24-year-old told the club's official website: "This is still my hope - to return for this game.
"The rehab is going really well. I can now walk without crutches and I am working well with the medical team so I'm pleased with how I am recovering."
Coutinho has scored six times in 13 appearances for the Merseyside giants this season.
