Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Diogo Jota has undergone scans on a fresh hamstring injury.

The Portuguese attacker was a notable absentee from the 4-0 loss to Manchester United in Bangkok earlier this week after picking up the problem during the most recent international break in June.

Jota has been training with the team in pre-season, but the 25-year-old picked up a new issue during a session on Wednesday evening, which prompted the assessments.

Addressing the media at the Singapore National Stadium ahead of Friday's friendly with Crystal Palace, Klopp admitted that he feared Jota had suffered a recurrence of his previous hamstring issue.

"So, Diogo is unlucky. Diogo was not involved [against United] because of an injury he got at the end of his season," the Reds boss told reporters.

"He trained yesterday fully and got injured again, so that's really not cool but we have to wait for the results. He had further assessment this morning so we have to see. It is the same region."

Jota was in prolific form for Liverpool during the 2021-22 season, registering 21 goals and eight assists in 55 matches across all competitions, including 16 strikes in the Premier League.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man is joined on the sidelines by new arrival Calvin Ramsay, who is yet to take part in team training with his new club due to a minor injury.

Klopp has also conceded that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker may also be forced to miss the contest with Patrick Vieira's side after 'feeling something' in training on Wednesday.

"Ali was not 100%, he finished the session earlier, was doing the warming up and felt something so now there we have to wait as well. I think pretty much all the others are fine, so that's it," Klopp added.

Alisson's possible absence could open the door for Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher to earn some minutes against Palace, where Klopp will not hesitate to rotate in abundance in order to take care of his players.

"Some might get 45 minutes tomorrow, we have to see, but again it's the period of the year where we have to be really careful with different things," Klopp responded when questioned on possible plans for his team selection.

"These are our footballers, these are the only boys we have. We have a lot of them but these are the only ones we have so we have to take care and we bring them in the best possible situation."

Following Friday's showdown with Crystal Palace, Liverpool will face off against RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg away from home before welcoming Strasbourg to Anfield on July 31. body check tags ::
