Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: 'Too much too soon for Daniel Sturridge'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that he expected too much too soon from Daniel Sturridge, who has suffered another injury setback.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Daniel Sturridge's latest injury blow is because the striker was pushed too much.

The England international is expected to be out of action for at least 10 days due to a hamstring strain that he suffered during last Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Sturridge has spent the majority of the season out of the team with hip and knee problems, and he continues to be hampered by injuries.

"It is no knee, no hip, no foot - it's just a little hamstring, but this is a sign that it was too much for him," Klopp told reporters. "Daniel had his injuries, I don't know most of them, but, after two days, the question is always, 'is he available?' Then I say, 'no, of course not'.

"Then another striker gets injured, so we say [to Sturridge], 'come on, let's try,' and then something happens and we say, 'okay!' [Sturridge had] absolutely no pre-season, he started training, then he started playing - another injury. Then he has 10 days, another game - that is the problem."

In his first start for Klopp, Sturridge scored twice in a 6-1 rout over Southampton in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup last week.
