Liverpool's first-team stars rally behind Danny Ings after the striker is ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has led the support for Danny Ings after the striker was hit with an injury blow.

The 24-year-old is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury, which requires surgery.

Ings spent the majority of the 2015-16 campaign on the treatment table with a cruciate ligament injury, and had only just begun trying to force his way back into Jurgen Klopp's first team.

The former Burnley forward came on as a substitute in the Reds' 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup last week, but he now faces another long road to recovery after damaging cartilage in his right knee during the game.

After the news was announced, Ings's teammates rallied around him with messages on social media. Henderson wrote: "Gutted for [Ings], but he will be back stronger! We are all behind you!"

Adam Lallana posted: "A top person, a top pro and a top player. He's cleared every hurdle placed in front of him - this one will be no different. Come back stronger and better!"

Joe Gomez, who has spent a year on the sidelines himself with a knee injury, wrote: "One of the most positive, down to earth & hardworking people I know... gutted for him but he's bounced back before and will do it again. Helped keep me going and I'll try and do the same. Here for you bro."

Ings has made just four first-team appearances for Liverpool since his free transfer from Burnley in 2015.
