Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury, according to reports.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has reportedly been ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Gerrard asked to come off in the second half of the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night after feeling pain in his hamstring, and he is expected to have a scan before the end of the week.

According to The Guardian, the 34-year-old is likely to be out for between two and three weeks, which means that he is expected to miss the FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace and the first leg of the Europa League tie with Besiktas, while his participation in next week's Premier League meeting with Southampton is also in doubt.

Gerrard's injury causes more problems in midfield for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who has already lost Lucas Leiva for up to six weeks with a thigh problem.

It could mean that Emre Can is moved back into the centre of midfield after being used as a defender in a 3-5-2 formation in recent weeks.

Liverpool meet Palace in the FA Cup fifth round at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
