Widespread reports have claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will have to make do without the services of striker Divock Origi for another month.
The Belgium international has been sidelined since Boxing Day with a hamstring complaint.
However, despite having almost recovered from that particular injury, the 20-year-old will now undergo surgery on a separate knee issue, according to numerous outlets.
It is expected that Origi will be unavailable until late February, which would rule him out of five Premier League games, as well as FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League ties.
Origi is one of a number of Liverpool players to have suffered fitness problems this season, with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter, Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho, Martin Skrtel, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez also ruled out at present.
