Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge fears that his 'vulnerability' to injuries could be hereditary.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge believes that his muscle injuries could be hereditary.

The England international has missed a major chunk of the season due to problems that he has suffered in training.

The 25-year-old spent seven weeks on the sidelines with a thigh issue while on England duty, and is expected to be out of action for a further couple of weeks after picking up a calf problem on his return to Liverpool training.

"I play my game as best I can but I've been unfortunate this season," Sturridge told talkSPORT. "Maybe it's my body type, maybe it's hereditary. Both my uncles had injuries and my dad had them as well.

"Maybe it's the Caribbean vibes, maybe I have speed but maybe it makes you more vulnerable because of the fast twitch muscles and the speed in which you're moving. I am vulnerable to muscle injuries. As long as I continue to work hard, everything will take care of itself."

A date has not been set for Sturridge's return to the Liverpool team, who have faced their critics in recent weeks after winning just four Premier League games out of nine.
