Liverpool defender Daniel Agger says that he never gave too much thought to reported interest from Barcelona, and hints that he will see contract out with the Reds.

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has said that he never wanted to leave the club despite reported interest from Barcelona last summer, and hinted that he will see out his contract with the Reds.

The Dane was linked with a move away to Camp Nou in the transfer window, but Agger said that the situation was always in the Reds' hands, and claimed that he is more than happy to remain at Anfield.

"The decision to let me go to Barca was up to Liverpool but they wouldn't sell me, so that was that," Agger told Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet.

"Staying at Anfield is all about making the team as strong as possible and I'm hungry to win things, and I believe that's possible. I'm interested in being part of a 25-strong squad of players and those the club brought in over the summer obviously helped to raise our level.

"However, I don't know if I'll leave Liverpool and right now I have two-and-a-half years left on my existing deal, which I intend to fulfil, so I'm glad I'm here and playing well. We have a great team and if we can win something that would be great because Liverpool is a massive club."

Agger has been missing from the Reds' lineup since picking up an injury in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City last month.
