John Aldridge believes that Liverpool's fading title hopes should not take away from what has been a successful season for the club.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has insisted that the team's fading title bid should not take away from what has been a successful season for the club.

The Reds saw their chances of being crowned Premier League champions dealt a big blow on Monday as they let a 3-0 lead slip to draw 3-3 at Crystal Palace.

However, Aldridge believes that Brendan Rodgers's side should be proud of their progress this year following a seventh-placed finish last season.

"We seem to have been celebrating weekend after weekend," he told the club's official website. "We've taken apart top teams and the feel-good factor has been put back into the city, into the club and into the fans.

"Let's not forget that when we have beaten all these top sides, we've been able to come away and think, 'how good was that?' We won 11 games on the bounce - it's been fantastic. It's just a pity that it seems to have deteriorated a little over the last 10 days or so."

Liverpool finish the season on Sunday when they welcome Newcastle United to Anfield.
