Liverpool forward Christian Benteke has revealed that his manager Jurgen Klopp attempted to sign him while he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund.
The Belgian joined the Anfield club for £32.5m in the summer, and Benteke admitted that his agent had a meeting with Klopp in 2013, although a move to the Bundesliga never materialised.
The 24-year-old told the Daily Mail: "It was after my first year at Aston Villa, my agent and the manager had a meeting about maybe doing a transfer but nothing happened.
"But it doesn't matter that he tried to sign me before. Liverpool are a massive club and you have to fight for your place. It isn't easy."
Benteke has scored seven goals in 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
