Steve Clarke: Kenny Dalglish sacking was "not nice"

New West Brom head coach Steve Clarke says that he was "disappointed" to be sacked from Liverpool following the axe of Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.

New West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke believes that Kenny Dalglish's sacking from Liverpool was not the right way for the Scotsman to leave the club.

The 48-year-old, who moved to the Hawthorns after leaving his assistant managerial role at Anfield, has admitted that he felt sorry for Dalglish, who has since been replaced by Brendan Rodgers.

"Losing my job at Liverpool over the summer was disappointing," said Clarke. "Football has changed, success has to be instant and it has to be on a level expected at whatever club you're at.

"If you look at Harry Redknapp at Tottenham, success can only be measured in the context of the club you're working for.

"Obviously it was disappointing. I was disappointed for Kenny, that's his club and for him to leave in that way was not nice for Kenny, so I felt for him. But the game's changed and you have to accept that if you don't meet the expectations of the people who run the club, you have to pay the price."

Clarke will face his former club on the opening day of the new Premier League season from August 18.
