Club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has played down suggestions that Steven Gerrard is in line to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in 2024.
While the former midfielder has naturally been suggested as a possible successor to Klopp, speculation intensified this week when the pair each penned new contracts which are due to end at the same time.
However, despite Gerrard currently impressing at Rangers, Dalgish has laughed off reports about a possible reunion with the Englishman and the Premier League leaders.
Speaking to the Sunday Post, Dalglish said: "Steven Gerrard signed a new contract that ties him to [Rangers] until 2024. But spare me the notion it all goes hand in hand for Steven to go to Anfield and replace Jurgen in five years' time.
"Listen, I know it's Christmas time and we all like a good fairy tale. However, nobody - including Jurgen, Steven, and me - can look five days into the future never mind four or five years."
Liverpool currently sit 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, while Rangers find themselves narrowly adrift of Celtic in Scotland's top flight.
