Liverpool striker Danny Ings admits that it felt "great" to score in the Merseyside derby, but was disappointed that his side could only take a point from the clash.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings has revealed that he was delighted to get on the scoresheet in the Merseyside derby.

The 23-year-old capped a good week for himself, following his call-up to the England squad, by heading the Reds ahead in the 41st minute at Goodison Park.

However, Romelu Lukaku equalised four minutes later to cancel out Ings's strike, but neither side were able to push on for a winner as the match ended all square.

Ings told Sky Sports News: "I thought it was end-to-end and it was exciting for the fans. It was great to get my goal in the derby, but unfortunately we didn't get the three points.

"I love every goal I score no matter what game it is. Today was a special game and it was great to get a header because I'm only a little man. I thought we created a lot of chances especially in the first half. I thought we were fantastic getting in behind and the defence were magnificent today.

"All the outside noise, we ignore it. It's all about us and in the dressing room we stick together, and on the pitch we fought from start to finish."

Ings has scored three goals in eight appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season.
